Last easter bento!!

Sadly I didn’t get as many easter bento made as I would’ve liked but that’s just how things go when you’re busy right?

But I did manage to squeeze out one last easter bento!!

easter bento 6

Ok so it didn’t look anything like I had planned….but then again I didn’t really plan. I just sort of had an idea and ran with it!

Packed in my is :

  • Mushroom rice
  • Red pepper and radish flowers
  • Quinoa “easter eggs”
  • Broccoli “bush”
  • Egg “chick” with bunny ears and
  • Bunny Pop tarts

If I could do it again I would change the “Chick-pretending-to-be-a-bunny” so he actually looked like a chick!

But hey you can’t get it right every time right?

On a more personal and serious note, I will be living on my own for the first time in my life. It’s a scary prospect and unfortunately I will have to start from scratch in regards to furniture etc so I have set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising some money so I can buy some furniture. I would appreciate any donations and if you are unable to donate I would greatly appreciate if you could share the link in hopes of spreading the message.

Thank you!!!

Disney Cakes and Sweets Issue 32 Lunchbox / Bento Guide

Issue 32 came with two cookie cutters, Donald Duck and Daisy.

Disney Cakes and Sweets Issue 32

How to use in lunch boxes / bento

The cutters seem to be getting a lot more detailed which is either a very good thing or a bad thing in terms of bento making! While detailed cutters can make great character sandwiches etc they also make it harder to get consistent results as the details can tear the bread.

But that doesn’t mean they can’t be used, why not make some character sandwiches or use on sliced meat, cheese or egg sheet?

Here are some mini character sandwiches I made:Donald and Daisy Sandwiches

The details aren’t that clear because I didn’t want to press too hard in case the details cut through the bread and the bread would get stuck in the tiny spaces.

What recipes are included:
• Donald and Daisy’s cute cookies
• Shenzi, Banzai and Ed’s cupcakes
• Princess Jasmine’s almond delights
• Remy’s chef hat cupcakes
• Elastigirl’s red velvet cake
• The Prince’s love-heart biscuits
• Winnie the Pooh cake part 2
• Creating wood eff
• Filo pastry recipes

I would be extremely cautious when it comes to ordering from the Eaglemoss website and where possible I would only buy these magazines in store (as I have been doing).

I ordered a large amount of back copies for some friends in America who cannot get them any other way. I ordered them on the 22/11/13 and paid for next day delivery.

Eaglemoss have again made an attempt to fix the issue, one parcel arrived with some of the missing issues. After another exchange of messages I was told I would received the rest of the issues when they are back in stock.

A few days later another parcel arrived with a few more copies.

(That was months ago now)

A few more issues have arrived but I need to check and see if that is all of the ones I’m owed ( I don’t think it is but I could be wrong)

Disney Cakes and Sweets Issue 31 Lunchbox / Bento Guide

Issue 31 came with a plastic Aladdin mould with Aladdin, Genie, Jasmine and the Magic Lamp.
I’m unsure why this mould is plastic when the resy have been silicone, I can only hope they go back to silicone as this mould is not as versatile as silicone, nor is it as detailed.

While you may be able to use this mould in a similar way to the silicone one’s for chocolate making, I’m unsure how well it would hold up in the freezer so I can’t advise trying it for frozen yoghurt etc.
This mould has very little detail and it will be a lot harder to get the finished product out. I really hope they revert back to silicone!!

What recipes are included:
• Aladdin’s magic carpet cake
• Scar’s chocolate filo dippers
• Cinderella’s cute cake pops
• Buzz Lightyear’s star swirl cookies
• Duchess’ very berry cheesecake
• Goofy’s honey and pine nut toffee
• Winnie the Pooh cake part 1
• Making filled chocolates
• Filo pastry recipes

Two Easter Bento

Last weekend me and my mum went for a day out in Beverley. I figured I’d make us some bento to eat on the train.

Then I remembered it doesn’t take that long to get from Hull to Beverley on train. We ended up eating the bento on a bench in Beverley but hey.

This was the first time my mum has had a bento-style packed lunch and she seemed to really enjoy it!

Here is the lunch I had:
easter bento 5

And here is my mum’s

easter bento 4

They both contain:
• Teriyaki noodle stir fry
• mixed vegetables
cucumber and carrot tsukemono
• mixed vegetables
• mushrooms
• broccoli
• rabbit shaped eggs
• home made, mini, spicy pasties and
• ham and cheese “Easter” details

I look forward to more bento lunches on days out!

Simple Valentine’s Bento

It’s that time of year, when everything is adorned with hearts and shelves filling up with chocolates and teddy bears.

I don’t make as many decoben ( decorated bento ) as I’d like anymore, so I figured it’s about time I get back into it!

Here is my first Valentine’s themed bento :

20140203-153145.jpg

In my Monbento Square is packed:

• Two heart shaped, beetroot sandwiches ( I’m a beetroot addict!)

• heart shaped kiwi

• heart shaped boiled egg

• baby plum tomatoes ( two of which are hearts )

• two lengths of cucumber, with a beetroot juice stained, heart shaped middle and

• celery and beetroot salad.

Who knew celery and pickled beetroot would be one of the most delicious things ever, not me for sure! But I’m glad I tried it! ( There’s some more sitting in the fridge…new favourite food? Maybe )

Do you cool for your Valentine?

Two big bento!

I had to make two “double” bento this week. By double I mean they had to contain my dinner and my tea. (Or lunch and dinner if you’re not northern)

They were both simple, but thanks to the awesome Philips Airfryer me and my partner received as a Christmas present, they were also extremely tasty!!

The first was packed in my CoolGear bento box my friend bought me for Christmas.

20131230-231312.jpg

It contains:

• Plain and stripy bow pasta (I don’t know it’s real name ) mixed with Airfried vegetables and salad cream,

• “Takoyaki” ( plain batter with hotdog pieces cooked in a cakepop maker) with salad cream and brown sauce in mini bottles,

• Airfried mushrooms and

• Potato salad made with Airfried potatoes, boiled egg and the most delicious Airfried bacon.

Seriously, if you love bacon you need to try bacon from an airfryer. Imagine the crunchiest but unburnt bacon ever.

I had the “Takoyaki”, potato salad and mushrooms for dinner and the pasta for tea.

The second was packed in my Monbento Square. (Review coming soon!)

20131230-231834.jpg

It contains:

• 3 better Takoyaki (I finished them in the airfryer so they were crisp!) with the mini bottles of brown sauce and salad cream,

• Lettuce, celery, cucumber and red cabbage tsukemono,

• Mixed Airfried vegetables (I left them in a little too long so they were a little dry),

• A spring roll and

• Cherry tomatoes.

That’s what I had for dinner. The second tier contained the following for my tea:

• golden vegetable rice,

• Airfried vegetables,

• tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) and

• an Airfried chicken steaklet.

It was delicious!

What would you pack?

Shish Kabob Bento

Today may be the start of something good! I’m not spilling too much because I don’t want to jinx it but I’ll let you know once I know 😉

Anyway it’s going to be a pretty busy day for me so I had to pack a bento. Something I’ve been neglecting to do!

As I’ll be busy I thought if have a rice heavy bento for some nice slow release energy and to make sure I had a filling meal. Here it is:

20131027-213710.jpg

Packed in my Black+Blum Sandwich on Board is:
•Salted long grain rice ( I wanted to use Japanese short grain but my rice cooker thought it would be fun to turn it into porridge instead)
• Nori tamagoyaki
• Instant Tsukemono pickles (cucumber and lettuce) and
• Chicken, mushroom and pepper shish kebobs.

I can’t wait for lunch time to arrive as this smells delicious!!!

I packed the box and some home made sweet tea in my awesome new Built Crosstown bag from Formahouse .
