£1 ASDA bento

Yesterday I was in ASDA when I spotted two lunch boxes.
They were a pound each and are extremely cute!!

There is I pig bento and a monkey ( I think ) bento.

I bought the monkey bento and here it is:

It is a monkey right? And here is the inside with included cutlery:

This box is great! I’m sure you’ll have seen the other animal head bento boxes online, they usually sell for around £18. So this is a huge saving at only £1, so much so I’m going to get the pig one too 🙂

Japanese food bargains in Hull

20120923-135607.jpg

If you’ve read some of my older posts you will know on a Sunday I often go to Walton Street market in Hull.

There is one “stall”, it’s not so much as a stall as it is a little shop under cover, that sells all kinds of snacks etc.

Recently they started selling 5 pots of demae ramen for £1 so I stock up on them each time.

Today when I went they had 5 packets of tofu for £1. Having never tried tofu I would much rather spend £1 than the £3+ in supermarkets if there is a chance I won’t like it.

So if you have the chance get to Walton Street market in Hull and find a bargain 🙂

New Tefal 8-in-1 rice cooker!!!

20120906-172902.jpg

Since I saw this beast of a machine in Makro I knew I had to have one!

Here is the Tefal 8-in-1 rice cooker on their own site.

In Makro this machine was £39.99 excluding VAT, even so it came to about £47 which is a lot less than the £69.99 / £79.99 I’ve seen elsewhere.

I will be doing a review on this as soon as I’ve tested all of its features, which include:

• White rice
• Brown rice
• Quick rice
• Grains
• Slow cooking
• Oatmeal porridge
• Steaming
• Deserts and cakes

That’s right, a rice cooker than can also cook a great Victoria sponge!

Bento tip #1

Ever had a bento and thought ” This could do with some thick sauce”? Not that you would use the word thick in that sentence but I meant it to cover sauces including, but not restricted to, • tomato ketchup •BBQ sauce • brown sauce That’s all well and good but when you have tiny, cute little sauce bottles shaped like bears and pandas it’s near impossible to get thick sauces in and out of said cutesy bottles. Never again! All you need to do is mix a tiny bit of water with the sauce and et voila you can now use it!!

Sushi set super cheap!

20120806-010033.jpg

Today I went to Walton Street market again, and I found these great sushi kits!
They were £1 each (about $1.54) I bought them mainly for the bamboo mat, as everywhere I see them they’re like £5+, but either way I will end up using all of the stuff anyway. I’m now thinking I maybe should have bought more than one 😦

Butterfly onigiri mould

I bought this great mould for £1 from BnM and they are always stocked with these. It should be great for onigiri! May be too big for eggs although after a little research the same company does make the egg moulds like the ones from Japan.
